Primary school bans home-made mince pies PDF Print E-mail

From the Telegraph

Mince pies have been banned from a primary school's Christmas fete over fears they could be a health and safety hazard.

The headteacher has said the seasonal treats cannot be sold in case a child has an allergic reaction to the ingredients.

Parents have branded the decision an over-reaction

Neil Davies, headteacher at Mynydd Cynffig Junior School in Kenfig Hill, near Porthcawl, said: "I have got to guarantee the health and safety of the pupils. I'm not doing it to upset anybody."

How very strange. I cannot understand the logic behind some people's thinking.
Shop bought mince pies can also cause an allergic reaction, particularly as they are more likely to include some questionalble ingredients.
Homemade on the other hand, will not contain additives that could cause a reaction. Not to mention that they may be less fatty and calorific than shop bought mince pies.
All food can cause an allergic reaction, wherever it comes from. Why pick on mince pies, how about Christmas cake and puddings? Why have they not banned them as well?
