Well a good pie to start the season. A middle of the road pie, not too fussy with a good filling. However it was let down by it's sugar coating.

A pie to benchmark all the others to follow!

Reviewers Comments and Guessed Origin
"A pretty decent pie to set a good bench mark with. Possibly an up market own brand, M&S perhaps?"

"Aldi - a very rubbery pie, struggled my way through this one. I was waiting for my first impression to surface but I drew a blank. The pastry dominates this pie and the filling is rubbery. I would not choose to buy this one (or eat another)"

"I will guess this pie is from Waitrose. A very moist, buttery number that melts onto the tongue, unfortunately this was after crumbling heavily in the hand.. A rich (almost too rich), tasty pie with a well textured filling."

"Mid market Mr Average - Sainsbury's"

"Not a bad benchy, failed the Theo Paphitas test, lid comes straight off. Not happy with the non-durable pastry, could either use less flour or more butter to hold it together, along with some glue to stick the lid down. Decent filling, bit more booze would take it to a higher level."

"Quite a good looking pie. Nice Star design. Sugar coating just about perfect for me, not too much not too little and real granulated sugar instead of icing sugar. First impressions OK, pastry a little dry and a little too thick. Less than half full of filling, so a bit disappointing. Over all a nice pie to start the season."

"The vine fruits had kept their texture really well. Pastry a little thick for my liking, so the pastry to filling ratio was wrong. This was my main concern. The star on the top and scalloped edging was pretty but the overall quality of the finish brought that mark down. No pronounced taste of butter in the pastry, and not a boozy pie, so I don't think it's a terribly luxurious brand."

"Very bland indeed not much flavor to the pastry at all. The lid came off whilst getting the pie out of the foil, not good, the best part about this pie was the filling, good flavor and texture could have done with a bit more of though. Could be a value brand pie, Asda."

"Your about to meet your son's first girlfriend. Expectations are probably unreasonably high. But hey, you’re going to make a judgement. First thing you notice is that her head is slightly wonky, and whilst there is a luminescent star in her hair, the hair itself is sparse. Don't worry, I don't always judge a pie by it's casing. Let's delve deeper, and she smells a little fruity. The little lady has obviously has a shot of brandy to steady the nerves, but it's not too overpowering. On the surface the belle is a little thick and shows a little substance but will probably be unable to provide good enough conversation to get your teeth into. On the whole you’re a little disappointed with your son, but for a first attempt, not bad. If this pie was a girlfriend it would be Meg Griffin. Sainsburys."
