"A nice neat looking pie with some sugar grains and a nice star shaped hole. Pre bite, the pastry smelt buttery and nice, and the filling could be smelt through the star shaped hole but the downside of this is that the filling may be less moist than it otherwise should be. Taking the first bite, the pastry tasted buttery enough but not at all fatty or stodgy. The filling tasted pretty good too with a nice texture and what may be a slight alcoholic content aftertaste. In fact there was a nice aftertaste after eating both the last of the pastry and filling. This is definitely one of the top quartile pies I have tasted and I'm going for some ones finest or luxury range - Waitrose?" "All i can say is chin up to all of those on the reserve list! As Kammy would say ..'unbelievable Jeff!'" "And now for the science bit: I could see unmelted lumps of suet in that mincemeat! Whats that all about? Mincemeat should be cooked long and slow to dissolve the tasty fatty morsels. Anyway, quite a tasty little pie, nice pastry although rather too much of it, given that thick lipped rim. Spicy filling and an interesting presentation - the cut out star a clever way to let steam out and avoid unsightly caramelisation from bubbling over, without an over-domed lid. " "As if someone had read our pie scoring criteria and tried there best to satisfy every category, a cracking effort and a very good all rounder. Looked classy and didn't disappoint with a splendid mix of fruits and texture making the interior as attractive as the outside. As to where this pie is from - Aldi?" "Beautiful pie, decent crust, good taste - so why do I feel a little empty inside? A little too slick, a little too perfect - this isn't just any pie, this is an over stylised M & S pie. " "Finally some grog! not heaps, but definitely the faint flavour of liquor. Nice chunky fruit filling also. Very buttery crust. Very well-presented pie with even sugar coating and a large star-shaped hole - although the aroma was not super-strong considering. " "Good pie, great aroma from the star on top - pastry was a bit dry though!" "My initial impression was that it was a very attractive looking pie! However, I was disappointed by how dry it was and how it was only half full! I want more filling!" "The best looking little number by far, but a little let down by the lack of treasure inside. It had a buttery taste and a hint of brandy, but still felt it lacked that killer taste that would have rocketed up the charts. Sugar what sugar! Waitrose for sure" "This pie is top of it's class. The class maybe remedial maths, but none the less it came top. The pie has enjoyed a good term, always perfectly attired and well behaved. This may mask some inadequacies though; the homework is of good quality but when a 1000 words are asked for, 800 is not acceptable. If this pie was a school grade it would be B+. Sainsburys." "YES! A fine pie - at long last. Looks great and doesn't disappoint, pastry was top notch, my only gripe would be that there wasn't quite enough of the very tasty filling. Almost certainly from a proper pie maker, do Pukka do sweet pies?"
