Reviewers Comments and Guessed Origin
"A nicely decorated parcel combined with a buttery looking pastry
had me mildly excited at the prospect of this pie. Sadly I was left
disappointed with the amount of filling I got; the first bite
relinquished nothing but air - quite how they get such good support on
the pastry with nothing to hold it up baffles me. In terms of flavour
and quality this was marginally above average, a decent pastry and a
filling (less emphasis on the 'fill') that I would have gladly welcomed
more of."
"A pessimist might say their pie was half empty, but mine was half full. A decent pie only let down by filling quantity."
"A
solid effort, sugar coating was lacking but a fairly decent crust and
tasty filling make up for this. No idea where this one came from!"
"Big fan of this cheeky number! Very easy on the eye
and a great on the palette too. Would be very happy to get a second date
with this one!"
"One for carol singers
rather than Christmas Day. Burnt edges and pale middle unfortunately
ruined the appearance. Tasty fruity (but not boozy) mincemeat, but only
half the pie was filled, so this doesn't feel like a luxury. "
"definitely a mid-range supermarket pie (eg. Tesco).
Not awful to look at, despite little to no sugar, but it was deceptive:
that cavernous gap between filling and lid both dashes your expectations
and makes the pie more crumbly and difficult to eat"
"Fairly crumbly, mincemeat very sweet and sour"
"John
Terry of mince pies, hard on the outside not alot on the inside. Would
make a good wing man, as assisted my cup of tea nicely. "
"lovly filling and got a lot of it, thought the pie
was just about the right size. Not a perfect presentation but still
tasted good"
"Nice
design on pastry top and nice buttery smell - little sugar though.
First bite was OK but perception faded towards final bite. Has a dryer
pastry which is not necessarily a bad thing but the taste was not
particularly buttery - the filling was quite nice, tangy and textured on
a superficial level but without much after-taste. A good medium
quality overall package and ingredients - but nothing exceptional."
"Perfectly acceptable average pie"
"Rating of C- :Crust was quite "doughy", filling barely half full (or empty) and of dubious quality"
"Better looking than tasting!"
"The lights are on, but nobody's home...This was the
Jody Marsh of mince pies.. Lovely yellowy buttery look, nice holly
design on top got my hopes up. Massive let down on further
inpection..Crust too brittle, lack of filling and had an really annoying
personality..I digress."
