Regular size and depth pie, neat round the edges but a bit uneven and sloping on the top suggesting lopsided filling within. Lid has plenty of sugar granules and central slit but not much filling smell although pastry smells buttery. More filling smell from sides of pie when you take it out of foil dish. First bite and it's a more dryish pastry with a buttery taste (a good thing) and fairly dense and ample filling which is well textured with a hint of spices (maybe including a hint of cloves). Filling seems to be mainly juicy ingredients tightly packed, thus there is no excess liquid or gloop to 'make up the numbers'. All in all, a nice solid quality pie that was both substantial and tasted 'traditional' - the taste factor being somewhat better than the initial appearance of the pie would suggest. Quite a good lingering aftertaste of both buttery notes and spicy filling, again suggestive of quality.

“ lovely fruity filling and thin buttery pastry. Better than most average ones”

“A good pie - a very fruity filling and decent pastry”

“A largely pie disappointing from start to finish never exceeded my expectations. ”

“Good pie”

“Good Pie, looked good, taste was good, good weight, nice texture Morrisons ”

“I'm a fan of "hole in the top" designs, but just a simple slit line?! Not good enough on a mince pie! Sugar coating is there, but noticeably lacking towards the edges. Rather small in size and light. Slight buttery pastry smell, but no hint of fruity notes - is there anything inside?? Thankfully the pastry proved just right, if a bit dry.The filling tastes nice, but i would prefer the fruit to be chopped up! After finishing the pie, I would not reach for a next one, as It was considerably too sweet, dry and lacked the distinctive fruity favours you would expect from a mince pie.”

“Pretty much 50% butter, great stuff! A far cry from vegan/low-fat/anti-gluten hippie nonsense. Is this pie made by John Smith? The purveyors of 'Av it!”

“The Andrew Cole of mince pies. Fails at the first bite, but eventually scores with the second attempt. Less stingy on the filling please.”

“The Balotelli of mince pies, This was a bit up where it exceeded in some places it dropped in others. Quality great but quantity not so, pastry good but aroma not so.”

“This pie is very much a 'nearly man'. With a few simple tweaks this could easily be a real contender - sugar coating is quite big granules which is not to my liking, the filling was of fine quality but I would say my pie was half filled with air. So near yet so far!”
