Reviews of Mince Pies available in stores during the 2007/2008 Pie Season.
Each review was conducted by an independent panel of volunteer tasters.
The review process was carried out as follows:
- Reviews were conducted 'Blind' with the identity of the Mince Pie kept secret from the tasters. (Note: As tasters took it in turns to buy the pies, one taster in each review knew the pies true identity).
Reviews were conducted with pies at room temperature, usually accompanied by a nice cup of tea. Where possible the tasters sampled the mince pies at the same time, so that age, humidity and dryness would not adversely affect the pies taste. Each Mince Pie was given a score of 0 to 5 (0 being low) on nine different criteria (devised buy the tasters). Each criteria was deemed to have equal weighting in calculating the Mince Pies Average Score or Total.

Three steam holes, always a good sign. A plain looking pie, but one with potential. Very traditional filling, fruity and tangy. Not quite filled to the top though. |

Quite a 'hand made' look to this pie. Nice edging details and covered generously with icing sugar.Mine was a bit 'lumpy' in looks though. Single steam hole in the middle looks promising though. Pastry a little dry and crumbly, but nice a soft. Not filled too the top though. Quite nice filling....even so. Write Comment (1 comments) |

Slightly dry, but a decent size, and a nice spicy filling, with a fair whack of alcohol in there. Write Comment (1 comments) |

This pie had a real handmade look. A little rough around the edges. It came in a box of 20, that's the way to do it! Wholemeal Pastry and icing sugar topping. A Tall Pie, filled to the top with nice fruity filling. As it was warm it was a lovely treat of a cold day. Rough, but very nice. Write Comment (0 comments) |

A nice small pie, with lovely holly leaf design. A pleasant pie, despite being so small. Filling was a little too sweet.

This Puff Pastry pie was rather nice to look at. Quite plump. However it was quite light, so not a good indication of the quantity of filling. I was right, it was 75% air with hardly any filling! I was robbed! Write Comment (0 comments) |

Really nice pie, with three distinctive steam holes. Excellent fruity filling, not too sweat. Well filled too. Write Comment (1 comments) |

A classic looking pie, with nice star design and sugar coating. Quite a 'Fat pie, with bunging sides, and gold case, a characteristic of M&S. Great Aroma when opening the box. Hmmm. My pie was only half full, so a little disappointing. Still an excellent pie!

Quite a nice pie. Good looking with excellent sugar coating and nice snowflake design on top. The pastry was a bit too crumbly and so some of the pies were missing their edges. Definitely need to be transported carefully. Though the pie case was slightly small there was a large overhang, giving u the impression that the pies was larger. Good tasting pie though, with a hint of alcohol.

What a Pie. A Monster. Huge... Could it be a replacement for the amazing F-Pie ?
Great presentation with a nice star on top and plenty of icing sugar. It was heavy too... full of filling. It was a bit too sweet for my liking, but quite fruity. An excellent desert pie. Write Comment (2 comments) |
