Today's pie was small, and not perfectly formed. Definitely a budget pie. It was fairly well presented with a nice star design and sugar coating, but as it sat there in it's small pie case I did not get my hopes up! First impressions were OK. pastry was too soft almost too moist / damp. However it didn't crumble. Filling was texture-less, sweet and forgettable. Virtually no fruit to speak of, just sweet mush. A very poor pie, but also very cheap.

A pie with a 'Home Made' look, but failed to deliver. The pastry was a little too thick, and there was not enough filling. We were disappointed.

Very neat pie with well defined three sprig holly motif - sugar granules a bit uneven but OK. Pie smells reasonably buttery, with only a very faint smell of filling evident through side/bottom - note there are no vent holes, so hardly surprising that most smell is the pastry. First bite and the pastry is thick but nicely buttery - you have to delve further to get much filling unless you take a much bigger initial bite. Second bite includes more filling, that appears to be fairly chunky with bits of peel and fragments of almonds flakes - so the filling has a reasonably broad texture and content with nice tangy citrus notes. A solid effort all round - maybe the initial bite did not have the required impact, but the pie did come good once you got into it a bit more.

Monster Pie! That just about sums up today's pie. We usually class this kind of pie as a desert pie, it's big enough to serve as desert. Simple presentation, good sugar coating (though caster sugar), this pie stands tall above most other pies. First impressions were good, crisp but soft pastry and plenty of filling to chew. The filling was a little disappointing, it had texture but the flavor of the fruit failed to come through. All in all a very sweet experience. Great pie, massive proportions but let down by the filling. Yum.

Regular size and depth pie, neat round the edges but a bit uneven and sloping on the top suggesting lopsided filling within. Lid has plenty of sugar granules and central slit but not much filling smell although pastry smells buttery. More filling smell from sides of pie when you take it out of foil dish. First bite and it's a more dryish pastry with a buttery taste (a good thing) and fairly dense and ample filling which is well textured with a hint of spices (maybe including a hint of cloves). Filling seems to be mainly juicy ingredients tightly packed, thus there is no excess liquid or gloop to 'make up the numbers'. All in all, a nice solid quality pie that was both substantial and tasted 'traditional' - the taste factor being somewhat better than the initial appearance of the pie would suggest. Quite a good lingering aftertaste of both buttery notes and spicy filling, again suggestive of quality.

A very original looking pie today, the Star 'cut out' design on the lid looks good, and allows steam out during cooking. Stylish and practical. It's clear that some clever thoughts have gone in to the making of this pie. So the looks are good but my pie only had one grain of sugar on it's lid! most of the sugar had been shaken off the pies and was in the cellophane wrapper. The pie had quite a good aroma. First impressions were ok. The pastry was a little tough, the filling was ok but not fruity enough with little texture. The overall experience was OK. Shame really.

Today's Mince Pie was another of the 'flat' design pies. Nothing exciting to look at, with plenty of caster sugar on top, this is going to be quite a sweet affair. The pie felt heavy in the hand, hopefully there will be plenty of filling. First impressions good, pastry was light and soft, not quite enough crunch though. Filling was very sweet and texture-less. All in all a very sugary experience with little else. Disappointing compared with yesterdays pie.

A refreshingly different pie today. Nice to have something that's a bit different from the 'normal' pies that we get to try. We had mixed results and these pies were posted to us. I'm afraid that some did not survive the journey very well! Not very exciting to look at this pie, though it's one of the 'shallow' type is still seems to look well rounded, so there could be loads of filling in there. Sugar coating is castor sugar (not my preferred choice) but a good coating still, and it has stayed on in transit. The pie was a good size and weight, feeling very delicate in the hand, careful not to make it crumble. First impressions were good, very soft pastry, plenty of tasty filling with texture. Yum. A very enjoyable pie, just a shame that it does not travel very well.

Now that was a good pie. Simple looking from the outside. Light sprinkle of granulated sugar (that was still attached to the pie). Soft pastry. First impression was good, with the pie filled to the top. Filling was good, not too sweet.
The best pie so far. Yum Yum.
