“A more fancy multi point star motif with a fair amount of sugar granules, but a slightly uneven shaped sloping top and edge – so not a clone pie. Smells quite buttery with a faint hint of filling. First bite and it’s pretty good ratio of decent enough pastry and chunky filling of decent and sufficient quantity up to pie lid. Pastry is a bit moister sort and does fracture, and individual taste is like a very soft biscuit but there’s no proper butter taste, so pastry fats are likely most part synthetic. The filling is the best bit really – juicy and tangy with plump chunks of fruit and peel but not much extra luxury; no spices or hints of alcohol. All in all, a decent standard workaday pie that balances somewhat ordinary pastry with tasty filling.”
“I really enjoyed that – presented itself well, small and quaint, distinct filling flavour and crust was good… Waitrose?”
“Looked and tasted a bit budget… Aldi/Lidl? Crust was terrible and thin, falling apart at the touch. The mince was very fruity and was probably the best feature but I’m afraid this one was a let down from first sight and couldn’t be redeemed. Aroma only gets a few marks as the top of the pie was loose!”
“Mmmm….. my kind of pie. Pastry and filling were perfect, not bad design, and filled quite high. Only let down by the not-so-massive size and uninspiring sugar coating.”
“Not Bad.”
“Pastry was just the right side of crumbly, unfortunately the ‘sweet and sour’ filling spoiled it a bit.”
“Pretty little number, easy on the eye, however pretty stodgy and got bored after a couple of bites. A pie for the shallow man!”
“Small but good pie. Has a tasty tangy filling, Crust crumbled a little too easily but was moist and added to the taste. Would buy a pack or two :-)”
“The pie didn’t look to bad reasonable amount of sugar coating, Pastry ok thickness wise a little burnt and hard to get out the foil without breaking the crust. But the filling was like a load of mush but had a strong alcohol taste to it,not good.”
“This is how mince pies should taste – fruity with a decent pastry. Shame there wasn’t more of it, slightly on the small side.”
