2019 Harrods Classic Mince Pies 2

2019 Review: Harrods Classic Mince Pies

As a Harrods Mince Pie we had high expectations, and though enjoyable this pie did not match up. If the quality and quantity of the filling was improved slightly then this could be a superb pie. As it stands it’s a good pie, but there are others out there that are better and cheaper.

Summary

Today we are privileged to have Harrods Classic Mince Pies in for testing. We’ve high expectations of these Mince Pies.

As you can see from the photos the pies come packaged in a shiny red box with a window where you can see the pies. We are rather impressed with the packaging as apart from the cellophane wrapper keeping the pies fresh, the rest of the packaging is all cardboard. So these are quite eco-friendly Mince Pies (I never thought I’d be using the term eco-friendly in a Mince Pie review!).

The pies have a Harrods H design on top, with a sprinkle of granulated sugar, near perfect presentation. No sign of a steam hole though, so let's hope that they have somehow managed to get plenty of filling into the pie in some magical way. The pie was cooked in it pastry case and takes a little coaxing out. These pies have a lovely aroma, it’s particularly strong from the base of the pie, the Armagnac must have soaked through the base.

First impressions are good. The pastry is soft and buttery and give way easily. The pie remains intact, with little crumble. The taste in the mouth is well balanced with the sweetness of the pastry and the filling just about right. The filling was fruity, but could do with a little more texture to it, we weren't getting much sensation of vine fruits. Our pie was only just half full too! Quite disappointing.

As a Harrods Mince Pie we had high expectations, and though enjoyable this pie did not match up. If the quality and quantity of the filling was improved slightly then this could be a superb pie. As it stands it’s a good pie, but there are others out there that are better and cheaper.
