In tests luxury mince pies sold by Spar, which has 2,600 convenience stores, were said to be the best by BBC Good Food magazine. Judges who blind-tasted more than 150 products in 20 categories, said that they were better than those of Waitrose and Marks & Spencer.
They praised the “lovely golden colour and crumbly, buttery pastry” and said that the filling was “sweet and jammy, with nice big chunks of plump, soaked fruit and a good hit of citrus from the candied peel”.
