Today's Pie is something unexpected, a Crumble topped Mince Pie. Now we did have to think long and hard about whether this actually was a pie as it didn't have a pastry lid. We do draw the line at icing topped mince pies, they are definitely not pies. However this crumble topped pie seems to be more pie than pastry, so we will, for the good of the cause, review it today.What an interesting looking pie, it came in the packaging without a pastry case, which was unusual. this pie is slightly on the small size, but the crumble topping makes it look larger. That topping reminds us of a lunar landscape, with different sized boulders of crumble. Little sign of a sugar coating. First impressions were good. Pastry was soft and the crumble 'boulders' added a little crunch to that first bite. The pie held together reasonably well... It's didn't crumble into our laps! As the pie was on the small side there was not a lot of filling to taste, from what we could tell the filling was OK, with some fruit, but it was hard to tell. Overall an unusual looking pie and an interesting experience, but not one we are keep to repeat.
