Summary
Today's Mince Pie was another of the 'flat' design pies. Nothing exciting to look at, with plenty of caster sugar on top, this is going to be quite a sweet affair. The pie felt heavy in the hand, hopefully there will be plenty of filling. First impressions good, pastry was light and soft, not quite enough crunch though. Filling was very sweet and texture-less. All in all a very sugary experience with little else. Disappointing compared with yesterdays pie.

Reviewers Comments and Guessed Origin

“A Flat Shallow Pie – ideal for skimming… Not much smell from pie before taking the first bite and initial impression it’s not going to be up to much. First bite and surprisingly good from a small package. The pastry is quite nice, being of a biscuity texture. Not much filling, so marked down a little as regards quantity, but filling tastes pretty tangy if comprised of standard ingredients. Not a bad little pie, but a bit on the meagre side of average.”

“Didn’t enjoy the pie; all pastry and no filling. It was doing a passable impression of a soft garibaldi biscuit. I don’t mind a think pastry as long as there is accompanying filling. Have I missed the good pies this year? Morrisons.”

“Excellent Pie – not the largest of pie’s, but excellent dusting of sugar coating and presentation, good crust and texture of filling. This pie will not fill a hungry man but will top off a festive evening :-)”

“Fantastic pie. Yes, it does taste like a biscuit – but there’s nothing wrong with that!”

“flat little pie, not much to look at or get excited about. However, the crust and filling are both really delicious – best so far on both counts. Could definitely have another one of those. yum!”

“Good pie! Nothing bad to say about it, of note are the buttery crust and ample sugar coating which compliment a solid filling.”

“In store baked? I’m gonna go .. Morrisons. Over sweet, for me, with a thick sugar coating, extra sweet pastry and sweeter than usual filling. The spice in the filling was good but not enough to counter the cloying sweetness. The pastry, although not buttery, struck a good balance between crumb and crisp. ”

“lidl?not really sure on the pastry and was quite a small pie. Did taste god though”

“Nice pie. ”

“NO funky design, and pastry a bit hard, but i am definitely the fan of the filling and coating… Asda?”

“Not Bad!”

“Small pie with a lot of promise. Quite a biscuity pastry which I wasn’t a fan of, but the full coating of powder accompanied by a tasty, perfectly moist filling does help pull the marks back up.”

“Thats what I call a pie, the David Beckham of pies, purely beautiful. ”

“This is the Gary Colman of mince pies. Small, fun and what Willis was talkin ’bout… Great pie, perfect size, correct ratio of delicious crust to ample and correct volume of filling.. Morrisons (I bought them).”
