Monster Pie! That just about sums up today's pie. We usually class this kind of pie as a desert pie, it's big enough to serve as desert. Simple presentation, good sugar coating (though caster sugar), this pie stands tall above most other pies. First impressions were good, crisp but soft pastry and plenty of filling to chew. The filling was a little disappointing, it had texture but the flavor of the fruit failed to come through. All in all a very sweet experience. Great pie, massive proportions but let down by the filling. Yum.

“A pie “dressed to Impress” – with nice powdered sugar coating and generous in size. Nice buttery aroma. The pastry was just perfect, buttery, moist, sweet… mmmmm…. but the top was a bit thick. Well filled, nice, not over-sweet filling, but i prefer the frit more chopped up. Overall, i wish there was more!!! Would definitely buy some for my christmas table, so long as they are not too expensive.”

“A whopping sized pie. Slight shades of brown on the crust are a sign of things to come as this overdone pastry is extremely dry. Best served with a healthy portion of tea. Aside from the pastry this is a top pie in every other category.”

“Deeper than usual pie with rather uneven and imperfect edged top – but did have a fair overall dusting of icing sugar which looked festive and a hint of wispy winter flurry. Pre first bite, pie smells very buttery but not much hint of filling aroma which seems odd as it seems a heavy and laden pie. Phew – this is a monster, so here goes with the first bite. First bite is mainly pastry, which as per smell tastes nice and buttery with a good shortbread consistency. Expanding the jaw somewhat more than usual, the second bite takes in more of the central area, so a better ratio of pastry and filling – but still the pastry taste predominates although the filling is reasonably good, comprising plenty of lush and juicy chunks. I would say that the filling contains a pretty standard and limited range of core ingredients, including sadly to say little lumps of white lard – that is to say there is nothing special here or any extra spices or suggestions of alcohol. Overall, it’s a hearty and workaday beast, for the worker who wants something to keep him going down t’pit. Nowhere near my personal favourite, partly due to over-sized but an OK mid-table contender”

“Wow what a whopper of a pie (good thing I did not have any lunch today). This pie does carry some weight, with a lovely even & light sugar coating. Pastry is buttery and crumbles beautifully. Filling does not disappoint and is well proportioned. It will be tough to beat this one 🙂 Morrisons luxury in store bake? ”
