Summary
Very neat pie with well defined three sprig holly motif - sugar granules a bit uneven but OK. Pie smells reasonably buttery, with only a very faint smell of filling evident through side/bottom - note there are no vent holes, so hardly surprising that most smell is the pastry. First bite and the pastry is thick but nicely buttery - you have to delve further to get much filling unless you take a much bigger initial bite. Second bite includes more filling, that appears to be fairly chunky with bits of peel and fragments of almonds flakes - so the filling has a reasonably broad texture and content with nice tangy citrus notes. A solid effort all round - maybe the initial bite did not have the required impact, but the pie did come good once you got into it a bit more.
Reviewers Comments and Guessed Origin

“Fairly Classic pie, Can’t remember where this is from.. Possibly Morrisons standard pie? Definately had this pie before – no improvement, they’ve clearly stuck with the same recipe year after year, reasonable, no frills. ”

“Fruity pie with chunks of apple in the sweet, runny, filling. Pastry quite heavy, almost stodgy, so hard to get through. ”

“The David Haye pie. Gives off a confident aura with a good design, but fails to pack a good punch compared to the heavyweights of the pie world. Lack of filling lets this down, to much ‘shell’ and not enough mince!”

“The Tim Henman of pies, crumbles under pressure, taking out the foil crumbles, first bite crumbles. ”

“The very fact that I ate this pie and then promptly forgot to fill in the form until 20 minutes later suggests that I’ve discovered the ‘purgatorial pie’. The only thing I can remember is that it had little sugar, and a motif, possible a star or a tree.”

“There’s clearly a mince pie filling shortage for whoever made this pie – looked big on the outside but hollow and empty in the middle. Not enough pie here to make a valid judgement on the taste.”

“Very average and half empty. Your standard big supermarket mid-range pie.”

“Very nice pie.”
