This pie is a very pleasant surprise on a Monday afternoon. One of the 'flat' style pies so wide but not very deep. So, not much to look at, no clever design on top or steam hole, just an honest pie. My pie had an amazingly generous covering of granulated sugar and there was sugar in the box too! almost too much sugar!
First impressions were good, pastry was soft and light with a little crunch. Filling, though thin was nice too, it had texture and fruit.
This pie is an excellent example of a good 'flat' style pie, it just leave me wanting another!

“A shallow dish pie, a bit rough and ready like a homestyle like a mama used to make, but with a fair amateur scattering of sugar granules in the manner of a windswept flurry in the field furrows. Not that much smell outside case to suggest is a buttery pastry or tangy filling. So here goes with the first bite, which is not bad although there is a quite high pastry to filling ratio. Filling does comes up to pie lid, but then it should do because of the low rise structure. Second bite takes in more of the inner core and filling that does have some texture, zing and a hint of spices. Specific analysis of pastry = a bit like a soft ‘Nice’ biscuit and does not have a proper buttery taste. Quite an enjoyable, if definitely average pie, and one that should appeal to consumers with lighter appetites.”

“Fairly tasty number. I imagine even for the biggest pastry lover (Ricky), this had too much pastry to mincemeat ratio. Thank goodness it was pretty delicious pastry otherwise this would have been a bit of a catastrophe..Only the limbo winning mincemeat was allowed to enter and this made for an extremely thin later of mincemeat..”
“Good pie but could have done with a bit more filling. Crust had a lovely crumble and a moist buttery flavor. Filling had good texture, but was a little lacking in quantity (an extra spoon would have been perfect) Would buy a box :-)”
“I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again, I’m not a fan of the ‘flat’ mince pies. They are called pies; this conjures up thoughts of deep filled temptations, not something reminiscent of Kate Moss wearing a tinfoil bra. Having said that, I have a sweet tooth, and the sugar covering was generous.”
“Lovely Jubbly, i prefer a Frisbee shaped mince pie and this didn’t disappoint with the nice pastry with the pie filled to the brim (the who whole 1/2cm). ”
