A fine looking pie, almost perfect? Nice star design incorporating a steam hole. Even coating of granulated sugar. Nice domed top. This could be an amazing pie. The steam hole is always a good sign of a pie that is full of mincemeat. First impressions were disappointing though. Pastry was too hard / over cooked. Inside it was full of air not mincemeat! I feel robbed. What filling there was tasted rather nice, fruity and with texture. The pie that started with such promise, failed to deliver where it counts.

“Different multi star motif design, with an uneven and not quite perfect appearance, and also with only a very few granules of sugar. Not much filling smell through the pie case, but the pastry smells quite buttery. Biting in, pastry is of a ‘softish nice biscuit’ consistency, and whilst the pie is not exactly bursting with filling, the filling is nicely textured and intensely flavoured with hints of spices and something stronger or alcoholic-like in the background. This pie is of a good standard and in a more interesting sphere taste wise – and is a pie that leaves a nice lingering aftertaste, normally the hallmark of a fine pie.”
