Summary
This has to be one of the best looking pies out there. Simple star design, even coating of granulated sugar making the pie glisten in the light. I'l looking forward to this already. My pie seemed to have a issue where the lid joined the base, sort of double lip, but it was still attached and ready to eat. First impressions were a little disappointing, the pastry in the base was too soft and a tad under cooked, whereas the lid was firmer a better cooked. The pie was well filled too so plenty of filling to try. The filling was OK, had texture so I was able to distinguish the fruit, but it was a little too sweet. Overall a pleasant experience, but not the best. I could eat another one though so that's a good sign....

Reviewers Comments and Guessed Origin

“Decent Pie. Good all rounder without being spectacular in any one department. Lovely moist pastry and tasty filling. Would definitely have another one 🙂 Where can I get them? ”

“Everything here is on the money apart from the filling. Would recommend these to builders.. makes excellent poly-filler!”

“I have a bee in my bonnet about pastry; it seems the stumbling block for most ‘mid-range’ pies. The presence of a motif leads to the increased thickness on the lid of the pie, and provides uneven cooking. That grainy, undercooked, pastry texture distracts hugely from any notes of pleasure driven from the fruit. Better than most, but does not deserve to sit at the top table. ”

“I wasnt sure if my pastry lid was cooked through all along .! Pastry case had a nice pattern and looked inviting enough. ”

“Looks good but fails to deliver in every department.”

“Poor pastry, pretty bland.”

“Standard size and depth pie, having a neat and tidy top with star motif and some random sugar granules. Does not smell very much from the outside – faintly buttery and only a hint of the filling through the lid; more so from the base. First bite and no instant sensation, but nonetheless a sufficient balance of pastry to filling ratio. Pastry is on the soft/moist side, a bit buttery and the filling is quite chunky with a hint of peel and spices. A pretty good average Joe pie – overall nice but nothing too special about any aspect of the ingredients. ”

“Tesco Finest? Really enjoyed that pie, I see there are some spares so may well have another.. Some subtle smells of nutmeg greeted me before I began my tasting, very festive, a pretty large and full pie, but still humble in appearance.. Great pastry, very buttery, soft and crumbly.. Filling to the top, and a good quality filling at that, lots of flavour, no alcohol, just the way I like them.”

“Tesco? Very wide pastry lip so the first bite was all pastry. Plump fruit in the filling and a decent sugar topping but otherwise a pretty average pie.”

“Very average pie again, although the filling taste and texture was little better Sainsbury value range”
