A pie with a 'Home Made' look, but failed to deliver. The pastry was a little too thick, and there was not enough filling. We were disappointed.

“A boring looking and lumpy flat low loader with no decorative features and zero sugar granules or icing powder. No smell of filling through pastry which has a faint buttery aroma. First visual impression does not inspire any expectation, so here goes with the first taste. First bite and it’s 90% pastry of a pretty ordinary and flat quality – with texture somewhat like a stale shortcake biscuit. Second bite and again, nearly all pastry and a thin smear of filling is beginning to become visible to the naked eye. By careful dissection, a more detailed analysis of filling reveals very basic ingredients almost exclusively just raisins and sultanas, and maybe someone has added a bit of spice just to jazz it up. Would have been better with at least DOUBLE the filling. All in all, a poor effort really and goes to the bottom of the pile for me.”

“I’m really not impressed with the propensity of flat, discuss, style pies this year. If you are going to make a flat pie, then make the pastry thin, not the thickness of a toddler’s play-dough pizza. Completely bereft of sugar, and filling, I’m struggling to think of any positive remarks. The only joy taking from this exercise is that delight that I won’t have to eat another.”

“Not the best of pie, no sugar coating, filling tasted like a paste, and the paste was about the same thickness as the lid and the base put together, Was the pastry even cooked for long enough?”

“Not the sort of pie you want to eat before going for a run. Going to be a few days trying to work this one off! Heavy on the pastry, no sugar to add a bit of texture, battling relegation this one.”

If so, I have been eyeing up these pies in the bakery but was disappointed in the reality – pastry:filling ratio is all wrong, much too thick pastry and it’s not even particularly luscious or buttery pastry. I can’t rate the filling easily as there is too much pastry so I can’t taste it.”
