There’s still be four months to go until Santa pops down the chimney but supermarkets are already stocking up on seasonal snacks, including the classic mince pie.
Shoppers were left surprised after discovering packs of mince pies have already hit the shelves at Asda.
The supermarket’s bosses say they are a “firm favourite” among customers .
An Asda spokesperson said: “Mince pies are firm favourites with our customers, which is why we have them available in our stores all year round and not just for Christmas.”
But it’s not just mince pies that have made an early appearance, some supermarkets have started stocking tubs of Quality Street, Roses and Celebrations.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We know some of our customers like to buy products associated with Christmas a little earlier in the year, so we’re stocking a limited range in some of our stores.”
Asda’s mince pies
A pack of six will set you back just 97 pennies.
But they’re a little more pricey when it comes to calories with each pie containing 220 (you’re allowed to forget that bit if you want to).
Asda’s website states that they are suitable for vegans.
Describing the winter wonder, Asda says: “Juicy raisins, festive spices and crumbly pastry… because it’s not Christmas without them.”
What you think
The festive feast sparked fury among some shoppers, while others can’t wait to hit the stores.
The NewFoodsUK Instagram page shared an image of mince pies in an Asda store and it was met with mixed reactions.
One person commented: “I wouldn’t say no!”
Another said: “Seriously – I’m going there tomorrow?!”
A third wrote: “Oh dear. Really?”
And on Tiwtter, opinions were equally divided.
Kirby said: “Why on earth have I just seen Mince Pies being sold in Asda in AUGUST.”
Abbie said: “So they’re selling Mince Pies in Asda… Christmas is here.”
