Today's pie looks rather chunky / heavy weight. The pie lid looks exceptionally think and stands proud of the silver casing. The most interesting thing about this pie is the 3 steam holes... Could it be full to the gunnels with delicious mincemeat? As all Mince Pie fas know steam holes are usually a good sign. Very little sugar coating on this pie, that's a disappointment. It feels quite weighty in the hand, is that the sturdy pastry or the filling...First impressions.. It's crunchy! The pastry is crunchy. It's not dry or too hard, but crunchy and quite sweet. The crunch is a complete distraction from the rather good filling, fruity and textured, and plenty of it... But crunchy pastry, please no!What a shame, this Mince Pie had such potential / promise but was let down by the distracting crunchy pastry.
