Today we have a special treat for the review team to try. A Mince Pie that has come a long way to be tasted. Here is hoping that it has survived the journey in good shape. You can see from the photos that even the box was a bit battered the Mince Pies survived intact. The look rather good, with a real home made feel. A magnificent covering of sugar glinting under the electric lights. After a bit of teasing I was able to ease the pie from its foil casing to reveal it in all it's glory. It's not too tall but has a good size and weight. There is a subtle aroma but I can't detect any hint of alcohol. First impressions were good. The pastry was quite a bit thinker that we are used to, but it was wonderfully soft, almost melting in my mouth. It was a little crumbly, but that's not a bad thing. For a 'short' pie there was plenty of filling too, no air gap in this pie, it delivered all that it promised. The filling was very good, plenty of texture and fruit in there, continuing the home made feel. Yum. A delightful pie that looks so home made. A Mince Pie that delivers all that it promises, a lovely sweet festive experience. If only it came in 'taller' / larger sizes.
