Summary
Today we have the Aldi Specially Selected All Butter Mince Pie. We've high hopes for the Aldi pie as usually they deliver an excellent pie. It's a great looking pie, with a lovely detailed design with a delicate snowflake on top of a bold star lid. Our pie had a couple of large steam holes, so we are hoping for a healthy dollop of filling. Despite being labeled 'With Brandy' there was little aroma so that was disappointing, we didn't even get the usual burst of aroma when we opened the box. First impressions were OK, but a little underwhelming, we had high hopes for this pie but it failed to deliver. It tasted a little on the try side, it didn't crumble, but could have been more moist. The overall sweetness was well balanced in the mouth. The filling was disappointing, considering the detailed description from the box with a promise of fruit, zest, etc... we could not detect any fruit, in fact the filling was a bit mushy.
Overall a reasonable pie, but it could have been sooo much more.
