So today we have the Holly Lane Deep Filled Mince from Aldi. This is usually a good pie so here is hoping for an enjoyable experience.
As you can see it's a nice looking pie, with a Snow flake design on top. There is a covering of sugar, but it's quite hard to see, more required we think. The pie comes out of it's case easily, feels about right in the hand... so it's not going to be too full of filling.
First impressions were a little disappointing. The pastry was soft, but a little too dry and flaky for our tastes. Seemed to distract from the filling and rest of the pie. Our second bite allowed us to taste the filling better. There was fruit texture in the the filling, and it was a pleasant taste but not really enough to get excited about.
In summary, an OK pie, but it could have been so much better.
