Here we go, the M&S Mince Pie. Through the years this has been one of the most consistently good Mince Pies you can buy.
As you can see from the photos our box of pies must have come from a batch where they over-cooked the pies, as they all look a little dark / burnt round the edges. Or pie is a little miss-shaped too. Maybe M&S need to improve their quality control on their batches of Mince Pies.
The classic M&S design remains, a plain lid coated with granulated sugar with a simple star shaped hole in the center. A simple design, that lets steam out from the filling during cooking. Our pie came away from it’s pastry case well and felt nice a heavy in the hand, M&S always include a generous portion of mince meat filling in their pies.
First impressions are good as we might expect. The pastry, despite being a little over-cooked is still soft and gives way easily, revealing the soft fruity filling. There is plenty of fruit there in the filling too, we can see and taste the vine fruits. However there is a lack of Christmas Spice… we could eat this pie all year round it’s so fruity.
Needless to say, we enjoyed this Classic Mince Pie. We were a little disappointed by the pastry being overcooked and the filling missing Christmas spice. M&S you could do better!
