It might be the most wonderful time of the year, but Christmas can also cause plenty of controversy. There’s something we’re very excited to try – Asda’s gin-infused mince pies.
If you’re not a fan of a traditional mince pie, or you love them but fancy trying your favorite festive snack with a twist, these mouthfuls of merriment are filled with spiced vine fruit and a splash of sloe gin, encased in an all-butter pastry, topped with a sweet sugar dusting.

I was surprised to discover this evening that unlike all the other supermarket counterparts, Waitrose has declined the opportunity to sell Mince Pies this early in the season. No Christmas goods can be found in their aisles in September. The only exception to this is their Bakery, which willingly supplied Mince Pies.
Should they be congratulated for responding to their customer demands of Christmas goods for Christmas time?
After all they are still selling their Hot Cross Buns!

Massey University students take part in a pie-eating contest.
Hot mince pastries were devoured as hungry students took part in a pie-eating competition at Massey University.
Nine people entered the competition on Wednesday and second-year journalism student James Pocock, 19, was able to stuff his face the fastest.
The contestants were given three minutes to eat as many Goodtime mince pies as possible.
Pocock and two others had gobbled their first pie inside the first minute, but the others couldn’t keep up with a hungry Pocock, who had finished finished 3½ pies when time ran out.

Festive foods are out on display even though Britain is only just cooling down from the August heatwave.
Andrew Marshall, 36, serves a poultry leg, battered sprouts, carrots, pigs-in-blankets and stuffing – all battered.
There’s also a gravy bomb and a mince pie to finish it off – which are also fried.
The festive takeaway totals an artery-clogging 1,100 calories but is relatively light on the wallet at just £9.95.
There’s still be four months to go until Santa pops down the chimney but supermarkets are already stocking up on seasonal snacks, including the classic mince pie.
Shoppers were left surprised after discovering packs of mince pies have already hit the shelves at Asda.
The supermarket’s bosses say they are a “firm favourite” among customers .

Sainsbury’s is selling freshly baked mince pies in its bakery section.
A picture of the pies was posted on a popular money-saving Facebook group , and it is dividing opinions.
Some people are genuinely looking forward to eating their first mince pie of the year.
“Sainsbury’s mince pies are the best!,” one customer gleefully commented.
Whilst another posted: “I know they are early but they are the nicest mince pie.”
